Aciphex Equivalents
Active Ingredient: Rabeprazole
Aciphex is a medication that blocks the acid production of the stomach. Aciphex is prescribed for a 4 to 8 week treatment, for sores and swelling of the esophagus. This condition is called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Aciphex is known as a proton pump inhibitor, and is used for blocking the enzyme that is important to the production of stomach acid. It works by reducing acid within an hour of administration. Aciphex can also be prescribed for shorter periods of time to treat ulcers outside of the stomach, at the top of the small intestine.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when food or liquid makes it’s way up from the stomach and splashes up into the esophagus over an extended period of time. This partially digested material may be acidic, which can irritate the esophagus and cause heartburn and other symptoms. GERD can sometimes be chronic, at which the doctor may continue to prescribe Aciphex in order to prevent a relapse after the first course of treatment.
